Northern Finnish Mutual began with a small rural group of Finnish farmers pooling their money to help a neighbor who lost their home & contents to fire. The Northern Wisconsin Finnish Farmers Mutual Town Fire Insurance Company started November 11, 1914 with 25 signatures on the Articles of Incorporation with each person having to own at least $25,000 worth of property. Fire insurance was written by captive agents in the four counties of Ashland, Bayfield, Douglas and Iron.

Today the company name is Northern Finnish Mutual Insurance. We have expanded our insurance products since the days of writing fire coverage only. In 2002 the wholly owned subsidiary, NFM Auto Agency, Inc., was formed to write auto and other insurances.

There is currently a seven member board of directors which are elected from among the policyholders for a three-year term at the company annual meeting. Dedicated agents and company staff are readily available to assist you with all your insurance needs.

This is a true local cooperative type of insurance company. Because of the members’ dedication, policyholders can enjoy the stability of rates, fair claims settlements and good service.
